Installation & Activation
Go to Dashboard -> Appearance -> Themes -> Add New.
2 ways to install Cactus theme
- Way 1: Input “Cactus” into search box -> Click “Install” ->Download and Install it online.
- Way 2: Download the theme from wordpress.org. Click on “Upload” -> ‘Browse’ ->Load the cactus.zip file you downloaded earlier -> click on ‘Install Now’.
Click the “Activate” link after installation.
Activate Cactus Companion plugin
Go to Appearance – Customize to open editor of your site. Click the “Install & Activate” button to install & activate Cactus Companion plugin.
Then you could see your front page has already imported the demo of Cactus.
You could edit everything in your site using Customize.
Go to “Cactus: Header Options” to set header style for your site.
First, go to “General Options” to make basic settings for the header.
Go to “Top Bar” if you want to enable top bar and add contents to top bar.
Go to “Navigation Bar” to choose layout for the navigation bar.
You could choose to enable/disable the sticky navigation bar by checking the “Sticky Navigation Bar” box. And 3 styles of nav bar are available here. You could also set menu position, logo position, etc. in this option.
Choose Menu items for frontpage menu.
If you want to set a special one-page scrolling menu for your front page, you need to check the “Display Main Menu Items on Frontpage” box here. If you uncheck it, the primary menu would display in front page instead.
With split nav bar style, you also need to set left menu for your nav bar.
Go to “Site Identity” to upload logo for your site.
If you want to display logo instead of site title in the header, remember to choose to hide the site title/tagline. Fav icon is also available in this page.
Front Page Sections Settings
Go to “Cactus: Front Page Sections” to check sections.
There are 10 pre-built sections including Banner, Services, Gallery, Promo, Team, Counter, Testimonials, Clients, Contact, etc. in Cactus. (*Add & Reorder feature is coming up in pro version.)
Choose to edit sections as you need.
You could check this box if you don’t want this section to display in your homepage.
You could edit title, background, font color, etc. for each section.
Then you could edit contents for each section. Text, images, icons, etc. are all editable.
Take Services section as example, you could not only set section column number, choose service style, but also add & remove service item.
In customize, you could preview all changes instantly. Remember to click the Save button before you quit customize.
In pro version, you could reorder the sections using simply drag & drop.
Go to Customize – Cactus: Footer Options to set contents in footer.
You could choose to display widget area & footer logo here. And you could also set your social info in this page.
Once you choose to display Display Footer Widgets, Go to Customize – Widgets to set widgets for footer.
Go to Customize – Cactus: Typography to change fonts style for your site.
Here you could choose font family from 600+ free google fonts and set font size for your site.
Cactus has generated posts archive page once you activated the theme. You could check it in pages.
Go to Customize – Cactus: Pages & Posts to set style for posts.
Go to Posts Settings to set style for posts archive page.
Go to Sidebar Settings to set sidebar layout for single post & posts archive page.
Cactus offers multiple options in page meta box.
Create a new page in Dashboard – Pages – Add New.
Here you could set slider for the unique page.
And set background & sidebar for this page.
Create primary menu for normal pages.
Go to Customize – Menus, click the “Create new menu” button, set Display location as “Top Menu” and add menu items to it.
